Thanks for that but I have visited that site before.

I allready have quite a bit of information on Phyllis, Henry Hall band, records and films etc.

I am researching my wife's family tree and one of her uncle's is adament that she is a relation of theirs, that is why I need to find the county where she was born,

Best wishes

Sorry, read the posting in a hurry and thought you were wanting the date. Any idea what country? If U.K. there are birth indexes available, other countries or areas might have similar sources online.

I do not even know if she was born in England

The story that this uncle says happened is that a rich lady went to visit his family and gave them all an old white £5 note, his father Henry Robins told them that she was a famous singer.
I can tell you that the family were from Stanton Hill in Nottinghamshire.

Hello Mosh,

Have you found an Obituary for Phyllis in one of the broadsheets? The Daily Telegraph, Guardian and the Times are the most likely ones that would have published it.

Times shows:
The Times, Saturday, Sep 19, 1931; pg. 6; Issue 45932; col F
 - a Phyllis Robins, A.L.C.M from the London College of Music. (they might have some record?)

Later on she is called Phyllis Annie, she married Michael Hickman (the obituary does not have anything about where she came from or her family other than her husband and son).

The Times, Tuesday, Oct 18, 1938; pg. 5; Issue 48128; col B
 - a divorce suit which mentions Phyllis Anne Kermode, professionally known as Miss Phyllis Robins.

The Times, Saturday, Aug 24, 1940; pg. 2; Issue 48703; col C
 - divorce of Phyllis Anne Kermode (professionally Phyllis Robins) and David Eric Kermode, who were married Feb 20 1929 at the Birkenhead register office.

The marriage indexes show David E Kermode a.k.a. Eric Kermode, m. Phyllis A. Robinson.  So in this case 'Robins' may have been a false lead. There is a record for a Phyllis Annie Robinson, born Mar quarter 1910, on freebmd.

Hello Jorose,

I agree with your comments about the false lead and feel Mosh should search for the birth place of Phyllis Annie Robinson.  Since she was married in Birkenhead, when she was aged nineteen, I wonder if she was born in Cheshire or Lancashire.

The IGI hasn't much to offer ...

Phyllis Robinson born ... 16 NOV 1911   Of Newhaven ... England She died in 1955.

Jorose and Christopher

Phyllis died in 1982

Someone sent me an email saying that on the Times obituary there was no mention of where she was born.

Today I phoned Thames Valley University as she was a member of the London Music College, which moved to Thames Valley in1991, they said a lot of information was lost during the move and could not help me.

I do know that she was made bankrupt in 1956

Best wishes
