He had a large premise opposite the castle called Paternoster building with a walkway (now gone) linked to another building behind. He lost many small children who are buried with him. His daughter Jane Maria was my maternal grandmother’s mother.

LETTERS
H. Humphreys to Myrddin Fardd
Castle Square, Caernarfon,
18 Jun 1862
Dear Sir,
I intend bringing out a monthly publicaton, adorned with pictures, under the name "Golud yr Oes/Riches of the Age": a national, monthly publication to support Literature, Music, Arts, Learning/Education, Religion and Patriotism: and since I have already had promises by various of the main literary men of our country, and since they will assist in the venture by writing for it occasionally on some topics they may choose or are specified for them,  I beg to have the honour of adding your name to the list.
I will be grateful for a word from you as soon as may be possible, together with some piece you judge appropriate for the first number., which it is intended to bring out by the National Eisteddfod to be held in this town.
Yours truly and faithfully,
Hugh Humphreys

Myrddin Fardd would be quite a scalp. I can see Myrddin's elder brother writing for "Golud yr Oes" - wonder how Myrddin responded?

Wikipedia entry for Myrddin Fardd (John Jones):

"had an older brother named Owain, who wrote for periodicals such as Y Brython and Golud yr Oes”.

You should. I've  mentioned earlier his introducing "inexpensive literature" (shied away from describing it as "cheap"). He produced a series called "Llyfrau Ceiniog Humpreys" or Humphreys Penny Books. Seems he produced 96 -  described by one as "magic and mystery".

Most of the contributors unknown and suspected Hugh translated many from English.
