"At that time he was, maybe, 43 years old. Physically short, but broad and strong, and yet surefooted and nimble/quick. A short neck, black hair and eyes, a broad, full face, dress neat and tidy, and of a clerical character. A keen, quick, exciting and adventurous/bold mind. Fluent of speech, charming and irrepressible, the embodiment of the literary man, the preacher and the merchant/businessman in one person. A man who had started out small and through overcoming many difficulties, had risen to a respectable and well off/comfortable situation. In his day there was no one more adventurous. He wasn't perfect in every way, no more than others of the children of men, except he possessed many advantages/excellent qualities. He lived a busy and productive life, reached a great age, and died in peace at the start of May, when the birds of summer were starting to sing in the woods of Hendregaerog"
