Politics information Richard Morris Ystradyfodwg
« on: Wednesday 04 June 08 21:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Having discovered much info from this site regarding my ancestor Richard Morris 1845-1919, I am hoping for a lead on where to look next. I was given information that there is a book with references to him in it :'Democratic Rhondda' by Chris Williams. Apparently, Richard was unfortunately late in his election campaign against Mabon ? , his excuse being he was somehow drugged by someone unknown and didn't make it to wherever he was supposed to go. Is there any way I can actually follow this up? i.e. newspaper report. I have had a quick look through the gale trial for newspapers with no luck.   Also in the book it is mentioned that he was a Restauranteur, does this mean he actually owned a restaurant, or just liked to dine out a lot??!!! All this info is absalutely fascinating to me as he was also supposedly a Calvinistic Methodist and Schoolmaster.
Kind Regards
Nerys

Hi Nerys,
Mabon's election was reported in the Western Mail newspaper on the 3rd of December 1885.
Why don't you try sending an email to Anthony at Treorchy library to see if he has anything in the newspaper archives that are held there, he is very helpful.
The web address for all the libraries in Rhondda is
