Boyd's Marriage Index Vol 3 & 4
« on: Friday 13 June 08 22:12 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me where I might be able to access Boyd's Marriage Index for Derbyshire -Vol 3 (1621-1650) & Vol 4 (1651-1675)?
Am looking for any DAKIN marriages between those dates, but don't know where I might find the Index.
Thanks,
Aitch :)

Hi Carol
Thanks for your message.  This is a bit of a 'needle in a haystack' job I'm afraid.
I'm looking for the marriage of a Dakin (don't know first names) somewhere between 1605 -1624, somewhere in Derbyshire. (vague huh?)

A Thomas Dakin born 1624 sailed to the US as a child.  There are no records of his parents on the same ship and the only lead is that he was born in Derbyshire.  What I'd like to do is find out details of any Dakin marriages in Derbyshire at around that time in case it's possible to track those Dakin couples further in time - either to eliminate them or not from the search.

Is there just one index to Philimore or is it indexed by Parish?

The original Boyd's marriage index is kept at the Society of Genealogists and you can search the index online at:

http://www.originsnetwork.com/BOWelcome.aspx

Note - this requires subscription: £6.50 for 72 hours or £8.95 monthly

80 of the 184 parishes in Derbyshire are indexed, but not all of them as far back as 1605.  So you would not necessarily be able to eliminate many.  :(

Thanks for that Nell.

I didn't imagine this was going to be an easy route, but most others seem to have drawn a blank,so other than swabbing DNA every Dakin descendent in Derbyshire, it seems one of the few routes left! :)

thanks again

Hi Aitch

Not all Derbyshire Parishes are covered on the Phillimore, but I could do a name search.

You might be better going on this site and methodically go through all the Parishes that are cover for those years (a long job) but again not all Parishes are covered and not all the years.
