Very often a woman might have her children, particularly the first ones, at parents/sisters home to help her through the birth. It would then probably be baptised in that parish. 

Going back to Nadine's point about my FH - Interestingly, although none of my ancestors came from the North East, I was married here and appear on many of the censuses here and will probably die here  :)

Thanks for that.  If Michael was illegitimate it is possible that his mother Margaret went to other family members for one of two reasons, to help her through the birth generally, or to have the child away from her normal place of residence. Who knows ?

Yes times change.  Very few of us remain where we were born any more.  My dad was born and brought up in the North East but ended up in Wales (via London).  I doubt he'll leave Wales now. l'll show up in a few different places in the future having started out in Wales and then moved around with work, finally settling in Gloucestershire!   :)
