What paper is it printed on?

What is the actual size of the photo? Have you got a magnifying glass - if so, can you see any grain?

I feel that I'd like to do a scan of this at various dpis. etc.

The photo is slightly bigger than the pic you have.

It seems very smooth & doesn't have grain.

Don't know what dpis etc is

sorry - dpi - dots per inch - 300 600 etc. I think there's something strange going on with the scanning 

What Epson scanner are you using and what settings, please?

It's an Epsom Stylus, scanned in colour at 600.

Did scan & save as a bitmap, but couldn't up load it here, so opened & saved as a PNG.
