As the  births were reg Sept qtr 1901 and Dec qtr1901, neither of them would be on the 1901 census

If you can, it would be worth purchasing their birth certs (£7 each) -that way you will know thier parents names -and mothers maiden names

From that we should be able to find them in 1901 and before

It is always a good idea to get certificates early on in your research -especially when looking for names which are not uncommon)-it can save you following the incorrect line

Look forward to hearing what is on the certificates -it shouldn 't take long. I received 3 certificates last Saturday, and I'd only ordered them on the Monday.

Hi Suz
the certs have arrived and it did hold info that is of help and hopefully could help me find more
John Dakin Smiths mother name was Christiana late Carr formerly Hook
fathers name was Cornelius.( these to me don't seem to be common names or maybe I'm wrong.)
Louisa fathers name William Holdsworth
mum's name was Mary Ann Pullan.  Hopefully with this info I will be able to go a little further back.
