jane mccully, dernaflaw, londonderry
« on: Saturday 21 June 08 19:16 BST (UK) »
hi.  i'm trying to find info on my great-great-grandmother, jane mccully, born approx. 1836 in londonderry.  i was able to find her marriage cert. to douglass craig in 1856 at dungiven presbyterian church.  she is listed as living in dernaflaw and douglass is listed as a farmer in drum.  father of jane is james mccully - farmer.  father of douglass is john craig - farmer.  any info on either jane or douglass' parents, esp. mother, would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat but to get the information (pre-civil registration) you are looking for you need to check sources like church records (if they exist).

Dungiven Presbyterian Church-
Baptisms 1836-1863, 1877-1880
Marriages 1837-1935
(from list of now closed Derry Genealogy Centre)

What did they do with their records, I wonder if they would let me have them.

Not sure when or if they're going to re-open but considering what they charged for information they certain won't be giving any records away. Can't see Dungiven Presbyterian church records on PRONI list but they are probably also in local custody.

hi again!  if the derry genealogy center is now closed, how do i go about getting any info on the mccully family from dernaflaw?  jane mccully was born 1830-36. before civil registration.  thanks for any help you can give me.

Records for Dungiven Presbyterian Church mentioned above are likely in local custody (i.e. the Minister or Clerk of Session). However as the baptisms start in 1836 Jane McCully might not appear in the records.

thank you for that info.  upon going onto the griffiths evaluation, i found james mccully, townland drum, apparently living close to douglas craig, if you can go by the number and letters of reference to the map.  every little bit of info brings me a step closer!!  thanks again.

morrison----thanks for that info.  those two jane mccullys must be related to mine but the father listed is not the same.  on further research on our 1911 canadian census, jane stated her month and year of birth as march, 1831.  on her marriage cert. to douglas craig, her father is listed as james.  we are getting closer.  thanks again.
