1861 census look-up Croydon
« on: Saturday 21 June 08 21:10 BST (UK) »
Please could I have a look-up in the 1861 census for James Heasman who died 31 December 1864 aged 73 in Croydon, so should be about 70.
He was a Blacksmith and was born in Sussex, but don't know where.

Many thanks,
Dijon.

Hello Jane,

I think it's him in Croydon aged 56 with wife Mary and Thomas Dulake in 1851, though I don't have the original, just transcribed details.
Piece 1601 folio 533 page 17.
It was spelled "Hisman" then,  but it's often written as Hesman or Hasman.

I'll see if I can find the address where he died, which may help locating him.

Dijon.

Hello Jane,

A few more details for you.

James was living at Cross Road, Croydon, at the time of his death in 1864 so he must have been with his son who I found there in the 1861 census.

According to the Croydon Street Directory, in 1855 James was living at 38 South End, Croydon.
Prior to this in both the 1851 and 1841 censuses he was living at 5 Canterbury Place, Shirley Hills.

I'm hoping that if he can be found, where he was born in Sussex will be listed too.

Dijon. :)
