Henry and Leah Norah (Lilly) Folland
« on: Sunday 22 June 08 12:00 BST (UK) »
I am researching Henry and Leah Norah Folland of Black Pill Swansea, who, after moving from Glanamman in Carmarthenshire, gave their former home to the community as a cottage hospital. Henry Folland was originally from Waunarlwydd (so I'm informed) and Mrs Folland was Leah Norah Thomas, daughter of the baptist minister at Penclawdd.

I gather that their son, Dudley Croft Folland was a racing driver.

I have created a webpage with the information which I have gathered so far, but any further information would be most welcome.

Many Thanks,
Dave Michael.

What sheer coincidence that I read your posting on Roots last night regarding the Follands, and tonight I have read a Centenary booklet for York Place Baptist Church Swansea in which Mrs Henry Folland is mentioned.  The re-opening of the Chapel after renovations, was performed by Mrs Folland, J.P. (LLwynderw) on Thursday December 5th 1929.  A report of the proceedings appeared in the Cambria Daily Leader on December 6th.

Reference was made of the fact that her father had preached there 40 years ago.

After the Mayor's tribute, Mrs Folland made a speech in which she said "the greatest menace to the Christian Church was the growth of secularism, and a growing disregard for the sanctity of the Sabbath.  The result was that there were decreased attendances at Divine Worship, and a growing desire to turn the Lord's Day into a holiday, and not a holy day; a day for organised games with music in the parks rather than a day of worship!!!!  . . . ." etc.

Hello Dave

How interesting to see a picture of Ty Llwyd Glanamman we went to the house only last year to buy a twin tub washing machine which the people who were living there at the time were selling as they were moving. We travelled up from Cardiff .

We were trying to describe the house to our family as we were very intrigued by it and wondered about its history.

Thank you very much

Sylvia

Here's a Swansea Folland who was killed in the Great War. Any family link?
