Hi M

Thanks for your reply. My grandmother was born 1883 in Back Ramparts, Stranraer. Her mother Jane Williamson was a domestic servant on the 1881 census but unemployed. So the question still remains why did my grandmother have the name Mann as a middle name on her birth certificate? The name Mary also didn't appear in Jane's family at all! Her parents though were married according to the Catholic Church Rites.

Good luck with your research. I see you have posted valuable information about a new Irish site within Family Search. Well done.

Hi Jan,
I found this in Kirkmadrine
John MCWHINNIE, late Smith in Clachanmore, departed this life 12th September 1791 aged 71 years. Also Rosina McTIER, spouse of John McWHINNIE died 29th December 1790 aged 77 years. John son of William McWHINNIE and Margaret NEIL aged 8 months.

Kirkmaiden
Erected by Elizabeth GIBSON in loving memory of her brother William who died at Longrigg 16th January 1926, advanced in years. Also the above Elizabeth GIBSON beloved wife of John McTEAR, who died at Longrigg 10th Aug 1938 aged 87 years. Her daughter Helen Jane died 23rd Feb 1963 aged 82 years. Her daughter Flora McTEAR who died at Stranraer 17th Dec 1968 aged 75 years. Also Johnina McTEAR died at Park Lane, Stranraer 6th Nov. 1986 aged 85 years.

These are the only two I found, I have on my tree a Susan McTear born 1830 Ireland, who married in 1854 James McClure born 1835 Kirkmaiden.
Kind Regards
Beannie
