birth cert J.Moore,Completed
« on: Thursday 26 June 08 02:58 BST (UK) »
I have finally accumulated (I hope) enough info on my grandmother Jane Marion Moore, b. 04 Jul 1896 to Andrew and Margaret(McQuillan) Moore in: Townland -Knockbrack, Parish- Holywood, Poorlaw Union- Balrothery, County Dublin. Her siblings included: John b. 1878, Andrew b. 1890, Catherine b.1893, Alice b. 1894, Francis b. 1898 and Margaret b. 1900. the family is listed in the 1911 Dublin census. They were Roman Catholic. The dubious info is the year of her birth, she emigrated in Aug 1911 on the Philadelphia from Queenstown to NY and lied about her age. She said she was 18, but I think she was 15. She went by the name of Jennie, and many records in the US list her as Marion J. In other words, her first name may have been Jane or Marion or vis-versa. her death cert in 1926 gave her birthdate as 1896. How do I go about getting a copy of her birth certificate? Or can I?

Probably the easiest way (to start with) will be to go to your local Mormon (LDS) Family History Centre and order the GRO (Ireland) Birth Index microfilms for the period covering both dates. Once you have identified some likely candidates you will be able to order a copy of the birth certificate from the GRO Ireland , their contact details are at http://www.groireland.ie/. You can't order on line (yet) but you can fax - on a template on the web site - the relevant Birth Index information together with your contact information and credit card details.

You could also try writing to the RC parish that would have covered the Townland/Parish - perhaps there is someone on this list who might be able to suggest the appropriate parish?
