Hi Phil and Deb,

<snip>

I find a couple of possible grandchildren in Guernsey Channel Isles in 1841

HO107/1460/15  Page 21
Petite Marche, Colborne Place
Guernsey

BAYNES George 50 N Army H P
FROME Theosedia 40 N Ind
FROME Emily 35 N Ind
+ 2 Servants

Nothing further on where they were born listed

Cheers Kris  :D

I found the following information on a site at Cambridge University, so it lends considerable weight to the theory that these are sisters of General Edward Charles Frome. It also provides a marriage to look for: John Thomas FROME to Jane BAYNES.

Kind regards

Philip

General Edward Charles Frome (1802-1890) was Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey, 1869-1874. Frome's mother, Jane, was the daughter of General Alexander Baynes (d. 1804). Captain George Macleod Baynes (d. 1874), R.A., who features in the collection, was presumably a relative of General Frome.

Good find Phil but still not finding it  :'(

There is a marriage here for Miss Frome to Henry Wilkinson

Also a John Thomas Frome mentioned

there is also Eyre Massey Frome (son of Captain Francis Frome, if he connects)

This is turning into a really exotic family, isn't it?

I wonder how the Wilkinson bit fits in?

Thanks so much for looking in the Indian records - very interesting dimension to the search.

Phil

Yes they certainly were everywhere Phil. Very interesting family. Wonder where these marriages took place.

No help with marriage but Jane was mentioned in her fathers Will so may help with her family - certainly looks like George in Guernsey is probably Jane's Brother.

It appears John T and Jane died of Plague in Gibraltar in 1804

Now following this John Thomas mentioned in East India Records (this chap is the only son of Edward Charles and Jane Light)

I see Photo's  here

Thank you so much for these wonderful leads. We now have information about the BAYNES connection, and about the only son of Edward Charles FROME.

The links to books, photos and registers is fantastic; thank you all so much for your help.

Kind regards

Philip

Hi Deb

This is really clever, and it certainly fits with the dates for the other family members named in Theodosia's will.

I wonder where Catherine married - was it in Hampshire or in Wiltshire?

In any  case, I am getting a great overview of the family now.

Many thanks for all this help.

Kind regards

Philip

Hi Philip

Hopefully her will , will lead us to her son, John and his family. We may even get clues as to her husband's family.  :)

I am having a problem trying to figure out Harriet Wilkinson. If she is the daughter of Miss Frome and Henry Wilkinson who married in 1811, India then I have found a Harriet semima Alexander b c 1819 in India ...her husband is a Lieutenant in The Bengal Army. They have a child born in India aged 5....(1851 census)

I have also found a Harriet Lucker aged 40, b Bombay India who is the widow of rev. J Lucker, chaplain of East India Company. she is with her widowed sister Sophy? Stewart (b Calcutta) who is the widow of Capt Stewart, H E I company

Cannot find a marriage for them .... but trying to think out of the box here.  ::)
