Hi

Quote
my wife was told he was killed in 1913

WWI did not start until 1914 so he must have died after that date

Have you tried the following website which lists the dead from WWI

www.cwgc.org

Edit -  Also - this is what you are looking for I think

http://www.laugharnewarmemorial.co.uk/page38.htm

Extract as follows:

Quote
Daniel Williams, Neaudd Cottage, Age 43. Cannot positively be identified, but is almost certainly Gunner Daniel Thomas Williams, 281268, 26th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Daniel was born in Llangyfelach, and married to Annie. He enlisted at Mountain Ash into the Royal Garrison Artillery, with whom he was Killed in Action on the 4th October, 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele. The CWGC list him as being 44 years old. This is the only Daniel Williams that comes anywhere near matching the Memorial Details. He is buried at Ypres Reservoir Cemetery.

Here's the link to the CWGC website entry

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=99936

I'm puzzled by this entry on the certificate on the CWGC website

Husband of Annie Carroll (formerly Williams), of 14, William St., Abercynon, Glam
.

Should it be Annie Williams formerly Carroll

This is from your post above

Quote
he was Daniel Williams neaudd cottage age 45yrs.

This is from the memorial at Llanybydder

Quote
Daniel Williams, Neaudd Cottage, Age 43

If he died in 1913 - it could not be as the result of WWI as that only started in 1914.

The website I showed above lists everybody on the memorial at Llanybydder and he is the only Daniel Williams

If you are sure it's your Daniel Williams and not another - then it would appear that the cenotaph entry is incorrect if you say he died in 1913.  The CWGC entry is also incorrect as it states that he died in 1917- not 1913
