TOWELL family
« on: Sunday 29 June 08 17:03 BST (UK) »
I am researching the family of Charles Towell, b. 1796 in Devon according to the 1841 census. He had moved from there to London where he stayed, married  al lady called Maria ,and ran a successful fishmonger's business. First at Billingsgate and the Hungerford Market.

I know nothing about his early life pre 1841, or who his family were. Can anybody help please?

Hi

I did a quick look on the IGI and couldn't find a marriage for a CT to a Maria but did find one christening for a CT at Holy Trinity, Exeter on 7 February 1796, son of James Towell and Jane.

Hope it's of use.

kind regards

Hi, I’m related to the Charles Towell you mention, who Married Maria Warner. He’s my 3x gt gf. I don’t know much about their times in Exeter, Devon but do have quite a lot after that. Which is mostly based around London, England.
I’ve have an open account on Family Search if you wish to explore what I have. If you find anything new please let me know.
Regards Graham

Hi
There is Charles Towells apprenticeship as a fishmonger to William Warner of Snow Hill London 29 Sep 1809.
His father is given as James Towell brushmaker of Hat and Mitre Court ,John St who pays £25 for the apprenticeship.

So James and Jane came to London too. I'm guessing William was Maria's father.
There is a burial for Jane Towell at St Seplucre 14 July 1835 age  60 Faulkners Alley
James remarried a Maria Cooper 19th July 1836 at St Sepulcre
The couple are on the 1851 census as Powell .James 75 years born Exeter brushmaker 3 Clerkenwell Close.Maria 48.
