I have just found a website which appears to be a one name study of the Carbis name.  I'm not sure how to post the link here, so if you google for the Carbis One Name Society that should find it.  It may well be worth an email to the website administrator regarding your Joseph Carbis  :)

Hi,

My apologies for taking a time replying, but I have just got in and it is already 20 past 10 at night.

I have another long day tomorrow, but should be able to report back on what everyone has so fantasically found and let you know how I get on with the evidence I have uncovered to date.  My apologies, but I will reply again about 7pm Wednesday.

My great thanks to eveyone and I will reply properly tomorrow evening.
