Hi,  I had the same problem searching for a "BROOME", eventually found them on the census return, they were down as BROWN!  Hope you have found yours.

Hi Glenda
I too had my BROOME family shown as BROWN in one census.
No I have not found the family in 1861in any county in England or Wales.

Hi

This may or may not be a problem with the 1861 census, I have seen/heard of a few anomalies including 2 that I have looked at, the most recent of mine was a change of forename.

Glenda6 has the right idea, that's how I eventually found mine, by varying the names.

Good luck
Geoff

I have tried various spellings - Broom, Brown, Brome, Brum to no avail.
I have even trawled through all the census returns for Dawley . This was such a task I may have missed something.
I would be grateful for any other suggestions.
