can some one advise please?
« on: Sunday 23 January 05 13:49 GMT (UK) »
? ?? Just wondered if anyone else had this bother?
I looked up "free BDM" for Wales, where i found my g-grandparents marriage  listed,1894 ,district Bangor.
But when i ordered it from Registrars, they replied they have no record of the marriage,
i just find it odd that it's listed on Free BDM but the registrars can't find it, however i have wrote again (3rd time) explaining that i can find it listed why can't thay ?

I think someone might have a clue about this if you could be more specific. On the basis of what you have written here I doubt whether anyone could voice a worthwhile opinion ???

Hi Snowolf

On freebmd there are often 2 marriages (4 persons) per reference number at this time.  Could it be that the groom that you specified married the other lady for that reference number?

Was there another couple with that same reference number?  If so, have you tried looking for them in the census returns to see if they married one of your names?

There could be an error in the transcription ie. district and/or reference number,  Year even.  You could double check on 1837online (pay per view):

http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/

Did you order it from the local registry office or the GRO?

If you ordered it from the local registry office, do you know if they checked all the towns/villages that came under the Bangor registration district ie. Aber, Llandegai etc. etc. or just Bangor itself?  No doubt there would be quite a few chapels/churches in the area and they may have to check each one separately if they are not indexed together locally.

Can't help further without more details I'm afraid.

You don't mention where you applied to but if it was the local registrars, I see that the Bangor registration district now comes under 3 different registry offices!  Look at these pages:

http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/cae.htm

http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/agy.htm

Have you been applying to the wrong registry office?  You well could have been if you don't know which part of Bangor your ancestors married in.

It might just be as simple as that but I can't say if you don't tell us where you applied to for the certificate.  Try the other ones!

Best wishes

Perhaps I have the wrong sense of this but County Registrars do not work from the GRO references [or do they?] - the GRO index number you quote gives a reference by which you can obtain this certificate from:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

I never buy certificates from County Record Offices so I could be wrong but I am not wrong about how you CAN obtain a certficate.

Yes, Hackstaple you are quite right.  In my previous post

I should have added that many registry offices don't have an index so won't check them all separately.
