So it was all to do with formal bankruptcy — he even had to give up his car! 
There's something quite tragic in reading dispassionate lists of someone's "worth", laid bare to all and sundry.

The photos have arrived safely and they are even better than I imagined!  Seeing so clearly the actual pages which were written over 80 years ago really gives a sense of ... I don't know ... passage of time, bygones, aspirations and disappointments of our previous generations ... hmmm, musn't get all soppy!!
