Tassan , Co. Monaghan
« on: Tuesday 08 July 08 10:46 BST (UK) »
Hi Everybody ,

I have just recently found out that my Flanigan family came from Tassan , Co. Monaghan .

I am just wondering if anyone knew the name of the Catholic Church that would have been there during the time period of 1830 - 1900 . Also , if there are any Catholic graveyards in Tassan , with Flanigans or Dalys ?

I have a Francis Flanigan will that states he died 28 Mar 1879 in Tassan , and his wife Margaret Daly probated his will in Armagh 29 Oct 1885 .

Does anyone know why the will would have been probated so many years after the death ?

Any information would be helpful !!

Thank you,
Megan

It could be that the Will was only probated when another family member died and their was something to sort out regarding a lease on property, etc. Might be worthwhile to check PRONI Wills index again looking for any Flanigan that died shortly before 29 Oct.1885 whose estate was also probated around that time.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Not sure exactly where the townland of Tassan is but it's in Clontibret parish (Castleblayney Poor Law Union).

Thank you , I thought it might be close .

2 of their children stayed in Ireland and lived in those areas .

Edward Flanigan who married Margaret Donnelly and
Margaret Flanigan who married Henry McAdams

They may have also been one more son that lived near them also, Francis Flanigan , but we don't think he ever married anyone .

Thanks,
Megan
