Completed - Alexander Scott killed 12 Nov 1914 at Ypres?
« on: Tuesday 08 July 08 22:12 BST (UK) »
Alexander  Scott married Margaret Hardie  on 16th October 1908 in Methlick , Aberdeenshire.  At the time of their marriage Alexander (36) was a shepherd. a widower and Margaret (19) a domestic servant and spinster.  I as of yet have no idea to whom he was married first.

What I’m trying to do is find is his date of death.  He was born on 03 Mar 1872, Aberdour, Aberdeenshire.

By the time of his son Georges marriage to Williamina Henchcliff  Wilson (aged 19)  on  02 Feb 1929 at South Crichie, Fyvie , Aberdeenshire he is listed as deceased.

I’ve had a look on Scotlands People and the only person in Scotland between 1909 and 1929 whith the same name and of the required age (43) was an Alexander Scott, a private in the1st Btn Scots Guards who was killed on 12 Nov 1914 at Ypres.  (Service No. 9689).

Any idea how I’d go about confirming if he's 'ours'.

Thanks very much.  Regards,  Steve ..........

Looking at SDGW It gives Born Glasgow,Enlisted Glasgow for the Alexander Scott 9689....Dont take as 100% true as SDGW is known to have mistakes...Have you cross referenced CWGC or SNWM DETAILS?

Thanks very much for the other avenues to approach,  I'm afraid I only did the SP search.  4 Alexanders on there - I think between 1909 and his sons marriage and only one of around the correct age.  Mmm - time to go away and do some searching.....

This is my uncles line and he knows nothing of his grandfather.

Shall get back to you..

have checked the SNWM - can't see him there.  Must admit have only searched 1914 on the CWGC - shall go and check the other years now..... back off there - can't see him...

Thanks again.  Regards,  Steve   :O)   off to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Update:  11/08/08 - Thanks for those who looked in and contributed.  He didn't die during WW1 but 1925 in Aberdeen.
