Sophia Frazer

I am trying to trace the criminal record of my ggg grandmother Sophia Frazer,  she was transported to Tasmania, Australia in 1843 on the "Emma Eugena" from London, on November 30, 1843.    At her trial she was found guilty of stealing and sentenced to 7 1/2 years.   Her convict number was, 27317,  there is a Sophia Frazer listed in the 1841 census taken on the night of Sunday, June 6 at Hull Borough Goal, I am not sure if this is her, can anyone help with the trial transcript and the actual charges please?   She married in Tasmania and raised a family there finally dying in 1897.

attached is another entry for Sophia on 17/06/1842

Both are from The Hull Packet newspaper.

If searching the website I listed goto "British Newspapers 1600-1900 and enter"Frazer" only. Narrow search by selecting "Hull" which will list the Hull papers and click submit and browse for Court enteries.

Hi Pete,
thanks for your help it was great, not sure if that's my Sophia but it certainly gives me a basis for futher research.   I tried to access the 2 sites you mentioned but could not get in, not sure why.   The British Newspapers 1600-1900, will try the "access gale" site again later.

Hi Peter

Tried the link to the Gale site and found it ok. You need to click the "register now" bit as you will be a new user. If you are in the UK-  select the "international" option when you come to the "State" box. Post code for Zip etc. They will send you an email with the login and password.  The rest I mentioned is in the site.
