Hello kingskerswell,
Have you had a look through the Church records for further information ???

It would help to know what religion the Irwin family were before checking the church records. Many Presbyterians were buried in Church of Ireland graveyards as well as members of the Church of Ireland and often the names of Presbyterians were not included in the burial register.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Christopher, Aghadowey,
Many thanks for your replies. Yes I have checked church records, both C of I and Presbyterian, in the Dungiven and Limavady areas to no avail. Isaac Irwin was a Presbyterian and finding his "wife" has become a problem. I originally posted more in hope than expectation.

It looks as though you've done the easy part ... found Isaac and his year of birth as well as his occupation, date of death and place of burial.

Now you're attempting to find his wife about whom very little is known.

Is Isaac your direct line .. a ggg or gg grandfather for instance .. or related another way.

A lost or missing wife story in the local paper might attract some attention.

Christopher,
Isaac is not in my direct line. He is my Ggrandmother's brother but I am in contact with a distant cousin in the U.S. who is a direct descendant. I have also done some of the more difficult work and from what I have found leads me to think that Isaac was not married to his childrens' mother. She appears to have cared for them up until her death in 1884 and then their father took them in. This is based on a school move of the younger child from a school in Aghanloo to a school in Drumneecy, close to Drumaduff, in 1885.
However, thank you for your interest.

Hi Kingskerswell.
Sorry unable to help like yourself I have been been in touch with Foster on a regular basis lately tracing my Irwin family. I have to say he has been a generous source of information and to try to repay his generosity, I agreed to pass on any info that I came across. I was going to forward your search request to him but when I read through your replies and seen the mention of the American cousin, I thought I'd better check with you first. If you are in touch with him soon send him my good wishes. regards. Belfast Beau.
