Blimey Blimey Blimey ;D ;D ;D

Carol I can't belive it!!!! I am soooooo excited - you have made my Day (although not my husbands as I don't want ot do any chores or jobs now I just want to keep doing this!!)  I first posted for help on this 3 years ago. My Grandfather was a Barnardoes boy so it took me ages to find his parents - William & Edith and I was coming to the conclusion I would never get any further ........ and now look!!! :D

I don't kow what I would have done without you Carol, Pam and Ambers

So now I can speak properley - what does a chain maker do? and I wonder what took them to Scotland.....
Aston, Kennerley, Oxley, Evans, Bolshaw, Griffiths, Judd, Cox, Cutler, Tatterson, Arnold, Barratt

I can't seem to find William's birth,under Aston or Ashton  8)
But I think this is John's,you might want to gett he cert to find out mum's maiden name- their marriage isn't jumping out at me either  ;D

John Aston born Jun 1868-registered in Prescot(covers St Helens) volume 8b page 678A

If you haven't already found out what a chain maker does, try the occupations board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,296.0.html

He was working in an iron foundry according to the 1871 census.
Newly married and with a young family I suppose he took any job he could?

I think Joseph is lodging with the Burgess family in Liverpool in 1861.
He is 23 unmarried,a chain maker even then and born in Dudley.
Oh yes and he's listed as ASHTON again!

Carol
