Just thought in a previous post I said " if previous is correct I have 1841 and 1851. I was referring to my previous post NOT Ambers, does that make sense.  I have just sent you the 1841 and 1851

Married : July 7th 1917 to Edith Barratt aged 40 (somehow aged 6yrs in the 3yrs between marriage and death!) in Christ Church, Dukinfield. Was a widower, occupation Bobbin Carrier, and lived 55 Castle St.
Father : Joseph Aston (deceased) who was a chain smith

The fact that his marriage cert says 'widower' kind of suggests a previous marriage  ;D ;D ;D

Just looking up to see what a chain smith does.

I've just been looking for the 1917 marriage that is mentioned here and cannot find a William Ashton marrying anyone called Barratt in the Sept 1/4.
Can you confirm the dates please Louise.

Rumours he was Master Freemason and that he walked from Scotland.

As genealogists  ;) we are told never to believe family rumours.
Although in this case they may well be true  ;D ;D ;D

I've found them in Scotland in 1891  8)

At 2 Germiston Place,Glasgow.

Joseph ASTON 74 head ,chain maker b England
Mary wife 42  :o shop woman,provision b England
William son 24 nail maker b England
John son 23    ditto ....ditto
Obadiah son 15  apprentice nail maker b Coatbridge Lanarkshire
Polly dau 9 scholar B Coatbridge
Sarah dau 4 scholar b Glasgow Lanarkshire

I know William is not exactly the right age,but maybe he didn't tell the truth on marriage if Edith was quite a bit younger?

And in 1901 at 350 Petershill Road,Glasgow.

William Aston head 30 nail maker b England
Florence Aston wife 26 b England
THomas W Aston son 7 scholar b Glasgow Lanarkshire

There is a marriage in 1893 of a William Aston to a Florence on Scotlands people, I don't have any credits to find out more though- sorry!
And the birth of a Thomas W Aston in 1894.

Can't see a death of Florence or Thomas before 1916 in Scotland though.

Maybe someone on the Lanarkshire board will have more info?

Joseph 42 head chain maker b England
Mary wife 34 chain makers wife b England
John son 14 scholar b Eng
William son (it says 6 but I think it should be 16) app bricklayer b Eng
Obediah son 5 scholar b Coatbridge.

Hope that helps  8)
