Sallylynne, i know Hebburn well as my mum & dad both come from jarrow - next door. In fact i learnt to swim in hebburn pool!!

My Aunt is engrossed in family history in this area and a leading light in the jarrow(and i suspect hebburn) local history society. i know they have many cemeteries indexed. i will phone her and ask if hebburn is covered. watch this space.

Thanks to all of you for   the information on Hebburn.
Your detailed explanation makes it a little more understandable Michael.
The Hebburn Cemetery on Victoria Rd. does look like the correct one, as a 1903 newspaper obituary mentioned that she was to be buried at Hebburn Cemetery.
I understand then,  at that time period it was part of Durham Co.
Looking forward to any bits of information you are able to dig up Diddy!
Thanks again

Just to add further to the confusion, the one in Northumberland is known today as Hebron however the names Hebron and Hebburn seem to have been used and are interchangeable for both places depending upon which period in history you look.

Thank you so much Diddy.... I must have missed the notificatiion of this reply earlier. This really helps, I had been unable to find her husband's death record and there he is - John George 1920.

If anyone lives near the cemetery,  I would love a photo of the stone! I know it is a lot to ask, but no harm in trying.
Thanks again

I live in Hebburn and frequently walk through the cemetery. Happy to take a photo for you. Do you know which part of the cemetery the grave is located?

Hello,
I am sorry, but have no idea what part of the cemetery the stone is located in.
I only have note of the inscription given to me by a rootschat member.

"Janet, wife of John George Middlemass.
died 17 september 1903. age 53

also George James, son of above
Died of wounds from action in France, 6 July 1917  aged 29

John George. died 5 August 1920. age 73"

I don't know when it was copied down, and just hope the stone is still
in place.

Thank you for your help and interest.

Sallylynne.
