Not a lookup request but does anyone know if any of the Dumfries (town) MIs are available (post 1689)  or even planned, please?

I've checked the D & G FHS site but don't see anything there  :(

I transcribed  the Applegarth ones a few years ago and was hoping that they would all slowly be done  :)

Hi Kama,
not sure if this is relevant but I found pictures of Applegarth Church and gravestones, one of which I think is my G.G.G grandfather William Beck who is buried with his son James and James's son. I was just wondering if there were any other Beck's listed in particular Jane/Jean Beck B;1806.

Don't worry if you can't help.

Thanks Lucy

Hi KAMA,

What a kind offer of MI Look Up's in Dumfriesshire, I am hoping you may be able to help me, I have recently discovered part of my family came from Dumfriesshire, from part of an old family tree I have just been given, the names I have are: -

1. John MCWhirter died at Lochmaben 23rd March 1836

2. his wife (they married 18 Nov 1796) Mary McWhirter (nee Nicholson) died 18th May 1831

3. John's brother Hugh McWhirter (unfortunately no details)

4. The parents of Mary Nicholson (No 2. above) Jonah Nicholson died 1 July 1780 and Mary Carruthers (no date of death - married 1756).

5. Children of nos 1&2 above all said to have died young and no place of death given - their brother James (my 4x Great Grandfather) and another sibling Richard had moved South by 1825, no idea why, as parents died in Lochmaben I imagine these siblings probably died in that area, they are,

Margaret McWhirter born 28th August 1797
Twins Richard McWhirter and Jonas McWhirter born 27th September 1798
and Mary McWhirter born 3rd January 1804

Apologies for such a long list but ANY deatails you may have would be brilliant - THANKS,

Regards Crystal

Lochmaben old churhyard

In memoryof Margaret Carruthers spouse to Peter McWhirter Lochmaben who died 24 March 1815 age 65 years. Also said Peter McWhirter who died 23rd December 1816 age 80 years.

This is the only inscription for McWhirter's.

Thank you so much for that information and your time looking for me, The McWhirter line in Scotland is a  a fairly new one to me so I am still trying to work it out - I am sure this will help.

Best Wishes

Good Day Kama.

I would be interested in a look up if possible for William Beattie & his wife Janet Agnes (nee' Callander)
William  died 9 March 1876 & is buried in Tinwald Cemetery.
Janet died 26 September 1886 also buried in Tinwald.

Thanks in advance

Hi Kama

I am interested to know of Lochmaben Richardson and Maxwell MIs that contain the word PORTIONER i.e. Crown Land given to certain folk by King Robert the Bruce in the 14th Century.
Cheers
