My great grandfather was called Frederick Peacock Papps - born 1870 in London. His father was John Lambert Papps born 1833 and he owned a whip and saddle shop in Knightsbridge. I wonder if they are related to the family you are querying.

Fabulous to hear from you and it will be great if we can help each other with our research.
Can you email me (*) and I can tell you what information I have.
I do have a lot of personal details about Frederick Peacock Papps and John Lambert Papps which my grandmother either told me or wrote in her family history book. Thanks.

First apologies to the moderator for mentioning my email.
Linda - the John Lambert Papps in my family - born in 1833 - was also my gt.gt.grandfather so it’s possible we are cousins somewhere along the way. I have details of all his children, which includes Frederick Peacock Papps who was my mother’s father’s father. As far as I can ascertain Frederick was the only Peacock and another son John was the only Lambert.  There were six children altogether that I am aware of. Do you know your great grandparent’s name?

I am trying to update my info - I was concentrating on my paternal side first so haven’t done a great deal on my maternal side. I am guessing that your great grandparent was a sibling of mine - Frederick Peacock Papps. That is either, Maud, John Lambert, Izzy or Ella??

Maud is my great grandmother.

I have had trouble finding John lambert papps, her father’s, birth.
It seems to be a different year and place every census!
I’m taking his birth year from his marriage certificate (which of the top of my head I can’t remember, I’ll look when I get home)

Do you live in the UK? I was born there but live in Canada now.

Take care
Linda

Hiya Linda, Yes, I live in the U.K. - in Surrey.  I have Maud Ashbourne Papps’ father as being born in 1833 and passing away in 1892. His wife was Susan Lawrence - 1845-1925, from Keinton in Somerset.  What I have found confusing in the Roots Chat discussion is how the families seem to keep changing their names from Purslove to Peacock! ( I think the Peacock and Lambert names are on the Purslove side and not the Papps side and when Hannah Purslove married Harry Papps they passed on both names as some of their childrens’ middle names. Confusing!  I also can’t understand why Caroline Papps who was Harry and Hannah’s daughter was on the 1841 (aged 9 years) census of John Peacock. This John Peacock was the son of John Peacock Purslove and christened John Lambert Purslove! Although I think this John Peacock was her uncle (Hannah’s brother) No wonder you’ve been confused. At the week-end let me know briefly what info you have so I don’t repeat anything. Take care.

hello sarah

jlp did die in 1892 but i have his birth as 1842 as he married in 1863 and his age said 21 on the marr cert but his death cert says - i think as its hard to see clearly - his age is either 54 or 64 making his birth 1838 or 1848!!!!!

i too have 6 children  - john lambert 1867; frederick peacock 1871; jessie ella 1878; maud ashbourne 1881; isobel 1884 and hannah louise 1874

i then have frederick peacock married elizabeth ann williams in 1890
their children  victor frederick john lambert 1892; laura anne 1907; maurice 1896; cecil 1898 and robert kimberley 1900
i then have victor marrying elsie miller in 1919 with their children annie 1920 and victor 1922

i hope this is right!!??

where abouts in surrey do you live? my dad was born in englefield green near egham

take care linda
