would anyone be able to look up the marriage between my great nan and great grandad.their names are gilbert francis haines who was born in wootton bassett, wiltshire, england and louisa emily hancock born in poplar, london, england.i know he went there in 1905 and louisa joined him in may 30,1907.they had a child on 3rd november 1908,and i have been told they came back to england when the baby (my grandad)was about 3yrs old.i have been told they were married in brooklyn, new york.so the marriage was between may 1907 and about1911 because i dont know if the marriage was before the baby was born.any info would be great.thanks

Hi Blinky

I can't actually help you -  but if you check this site out you might be able to get a marrige cert for your greatgrandparents

http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/home.shtml

if you send them the details they can probably get it for you -
hope this helps

Here is a great website for free research done in Brooklyn.  Much has been donated by kind people.  You may find information in the vital records section or look at the newspaper called teh Brooklyn Eagle.  Marriages and births were reported in teh newspaper. Good luck.

Did you try directly to the New York City Municipal Archives?  I have done it many times for records from Brooklyn.  Takes 1-2 months in New York (so I am sure longer from out of the country). Be patient if you have tried the NYC government.
This link below has the information and forms I have used.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/home.shtml

Email them with the following form.  It takes a week or so for them to respond by they do respond to any questions.  Remember this is a VERY large city and Milions of people passed through and lived in the 4 boroughs.

I am so pleased you got your certificate.  I hope it is full of good stuff. ;D They must be busy in NYC as I am waiting 2-3times longer than last year for records.  I even have the certificate number so they do not have to do a search.
