Never mind - here's the 1851 entry for Shimplingthorne- all surname Cobbold.  All b Shimpling except dad John

thanks for that, still getting nowhere with Ancestry, seems to be locked solid to me,,,arrrggghhh  >:( I'll get there in the end. Interesting result the 1851, lots more children, some gone, should keep me busy for quite some time.  ;D

I see that this is an older exchange re: the Cobbold family.  I am taking a chance that this reply may be found and read.

I am the great grandson of Nanny Cobbold, who first appears on the 1851 English Census, with father John and mother Elizabeth (Simpson) Cobbold, and siblings.  Nanny (Naomi) married Thomas Brown in Romford in 1865.  Their son, Thomas, my grandfather, immigrated to the USA and married Annie Dora Gertrude COLMER who had immigrated from London about the same time.
Honor would be my great grand aunt.
