an early census request please
« on: Saturday 19 July 08 08:08 BST (UK) »
Thomas Garner married Sarah Purton in 1825. he born circa 1806 according to IGI which i know is a member submitted report and she 1810 but can anyone place them in the '41 census. son is Henry born 1832. dont know if any other kids. also interested in Thomas parents John Garner and Ruth Turner as iGI doesnt have their marriage dates. possibly born in Herts? supposedly married 1770 either St. Albans Herts or St. Michaels Herts. 9/2/1770
i am intrigued as this is the Tunrer family tree and a Garner married a Turner for me to get to this point going back down the tree.

On holiday at the moment so don't have my research aids with me.

The Allen Marriage Index for Herts is on http://www.hertsdirect.org/libsleisure/heritage1/HALS/indexes/
and includes the 1770 marriage you mention in the parish of St Michaels, St Albans.

But a marriage in 1770 and a child in 1806 seems unlikely. The mother would have been at least 52 and probably older. Too old.

The member submission to which you refer for the marriage of Thomas and Sarah gives his date of death as 1837 and hers as 1838. If these are correct you won't find them in the census. I'll check them out when I get home later this week

Where was Henry born?

David

thats the trouble with member submissions but sometimes they give you somewhere to start i dont take thenm as gospel truth just an aid.

also i have been told recently that once submitted they cant be updated if a mistake is made just a new submission is added but then no one knows which is the correct one. which explains why there are so many for every name.

there is a rootsweb record for Henry  that has him born Herts. as this person seems to have the exact date of his birth as 29/5/1832 i hope they have his details correct. this submissione seems more detailed but only goes back  using vague dates. perhaps they too took the details from IGI.
all of the family are based around the BUcks, Beds, Herts area. the reason i am interested in Ruth Turner is i have 2 early families of Turners of which only one member is accounted for. the others may have descendents out there somewhere we just havnt connected all the dots yet. its possible that Ruth is a descendent of one of them.

A member has also submitted a birth to the IGI of the same Henry Garner but it's for a year later.Surely there can't be two Henry Garner's who died on the 18th July 1900

Birth:  29 JUL 1833   North Church, Hertford, England
Death:  18 JUL 1900

Treat these member submitted records with caution, until you have seen the film of the record at your local LDS centre to prove them right or wrong.

I certainly can't see him in 1841- and if the dates of death are correct as Bedfordshire Boy points out,his parents won't be ont he 1841 will they  ;)

Hi kas

The earliest I can see Henry Garner born Northchurch c 1833 is in 1861 when he is a Sawyer in Kensington married to a Mary born Ivinghoe, Bucks - happy to post details if you want them.

I can't see him in 41/51 which could mean that his parents did die and he was adopted and brought up under a different name.

Jan ;)

no i got them married. thats Mary Turner the sister to my ancestor hes married too. i got their life after they married circa '54 and hers before. i just was interested in his heritage.

especially as his ancestor was a Turner.

the Garners had terrible trouble keeping their kids. all the families in this particular line lose at least 3/4 right through about 4 generations. must have a weak gene. even going to the US didnt seem to change it.

very sad.

I know I said that I would look up various things for you when I got home. But having been accused on your Bucks thread of being unhelpful I'm not prepared to give you the opportunity to insult me again.

There are more than enough people on the boards of the three counties that I look at who are grateful for any help they are given, so I'm sure you'll understand if I say that in future I'll be concentrating on them.

People who need favours from others shouldn't bite the hands that feed them.
