*Completed Thanks to TATI* - In a Pickle
« on: Tuesday 22 July 08 07:40 BST (UK) »
I have now reached the stage of the family tree where I am making sure I have sources for every person in the tree. I seem to be hitting ALOT of dead ends.
I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to help me with this one.
Her name is Sarah THOMAS (not at all common!!) born in Flintshire in 1873 (October Q) I have her father which is Evans Thomas b.1848 in Llanferas.
Sarah Thomas Married John Evans!
Now its the Mom of Sarah that I am stuck with, I have the 1881 census records and it brings up her dad as John (which is correct) however it lists her mom as Eliza, the only problem with that is according to census Eliza is only 18! Firstly Its not hugely common for a 30year to marry an 18 year old back in those days, but this would have made Eliza 10 when she had Sarah!!
Could this be a mistake? What do you think. I can not find any marriage for John Evans to Eliza, According to census Eliza was born in Mold.

I am in Aus which makes it very difficult to be able to get B/C and access to papers or Libraries which doesnt help the situation. Thank you guys

Hi Family Digger,

I'm a bit lost, with Sarah and her father both being born 1848? :P

Have you checked the actual census image to see if Eliza is definitely 18? Could you post the 1881 census reference so we can have a look?  :)

and that she was her mother.
That's the bit it does NOT say on the census. Everyone's relationship is to the head of household - the relationship between the head's wife and the children isn't given.

Big age gap between Sarah and Margaret so it does look like a remarriage ...

I see there's a girl age 10 - I'll see if I can find the family in 1871  :)

So! If Eliza is in fact Louisa, then this could be Evan's 2nd marriage:

Sep 1880 Ruthin 11b 427
Louisa Hannah Cooper - Evan Thomas

Shall we try and trace Catherine nee Goodwin back?  :)

Wow your like the queen of RootChat.  :-*

I am very confident that Catherine is there mother of Sarah and Annie, I' dead excited now as this is one the lines which has been confusing me and my aunt who also reached a dead end at this point.
It would seem that Mr Evan Thomas is a quite the ladies man!! lol

His mother is called Sarah, but for some reason I had Evan as dead in 1881!! Clearly a mistake! lol
Thank you for this help your brill.
