Hi 2zpool/Janis,

Many thanks for that.

I wonder if you could help me please with another Rossiter at Earsdon please?

I have a William Rossiter born circa 1850 at Earsdon. His father is William Rossiter born circa 1815 and baptised at Tynemouth, Northumberland. Unfortunately I do not know William the father's wife. I tried FreeBMD for a marriage aroud 1849 but could not find one.

Is it possible to check the 1851 Census please to get some rough idea of the name of young William's mother or obtain a baptism record for him which names her?

Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.

Best wishes

Hi Janis,

Many thanks for that.

I recognize Jane Rossiter as Jane Harrison the second wife of William Rossiter  born 1790 ( the son of William Rossiter and Mary Scott)

William ( Jane's husband) was first married to Mary Turnbull in 1813 and they had a son William born 1815. He is the father of William born 1850 but I am still no wiser as to the name of young William's mother.

The fact that she is a widow implies that her husband William born 1815 must already be dead.

Is it possible to find William born 1815 in the 1841 Census please? He will hopefully be married. If not then I will then know that he got married between 1841 and 1851 and died before 1851.

Best wishes

You have the burial of Mary Rossiter age 26 of Hill Top in Tynemouth 26 Sept 1825?

Perhaps that William the tailor is the William you are looking for?  The census was filled out by each household and the specifics of boarders were notoriously incorrect.  This child William in the 1851 census--did he marry later and do you have that marriage cert? What was the father's name on it--and occupation.  A tailor is one of those jobs that once you were no longer an apprentice you tended to stay in that occupation.

It also could be that the parents did not marry but the lass died and he has the child at his mother's for care.  Have you found a baptism?

Just thoughts.  I could only find  William of the right age in the 1841 but in the household of Luke Rossiter.
