Thanks for the posts.

Luke married Sarah Ann McClaren in 1881 at Tynemouth, according to FreeBMD.

I think the family just posted is a different family as Luke's parents are Robert Rossiter & Elizabeth Tweedy according to my database, unless I've got the wrong Luke which is possible as this branch in Tynemouth is quite a large one with more than one Luke.

this is a quickie rationale of where us lot journeyed....

You asked for Abner...


Heywood latched onto Abner dtr of a Luke , born Percy Main (recorded on both C1891 and 1901)

Then Sue finds Luke (born Percy Main on C1861) with parents Thomas and Mary Ann.

Robert and Elizabeth also have a Luke, born c1860 but in South Shields, in County Durham. Thomas and Mary had a son Luke b.c1860, but in Percy Main, in Northumberland.  The father of Anber was born in PERCY MAIN.

it is amazing how we do journey from one person to another and I suppose that a one name study reveals the intertwining of people.

Hi Sue/Michael,

At this stage I am not sure.

Tynemouth has a lot of Rossiter families who like all the other Rossiter families tended to recycle Christian names through generations and between branches of families.

I found a marriage between a Thomas Rossiter and a Mary Ann Robson in DEC Qtr 1850 in South Shields, but at this point I don't know who Thomas's parents are so I can't link him in to the family tree I'm holding in my database. I can't find Thomas in the 1881 Census, nor am I clear about the daughter Mary Robson in Sue's 1891 posting.

As Michael said there is a Luke Rossiter born circa 1860 for whom we have two sets of parents. From what has been said it does look indeed as if  Thomas & Mary Ann are Lukes parents especially since Luke has a daughter born circa 1894 called Mary Robson Rossiter.

There were at least two Luke Rossiters, both born c1860.... one in Percy Main, Northumberland, the other in South Shields, County Durham. The Percy Main one had a dtr Abner. The South Shields Luke had ??.

Hi Michael,

In this enquiry, I guess my main focus is Abner's parents and his line.

As I am doing a one name study all the Rossiters in Tynemouth are of interest to me as they appear to be all related.

Some Rossiter families moved from Devon and  Somerset to Northumberland to set up a large community of Rossiters. I have the Devon and Somerset Rossiters pretty well mapped out and have some of those in Northumberland.

I am trying to find out where Abner's line fits in.

As Thomas Rossiter was born New York and is 35 yrs in 1861 - I wonde rif he is son to this Luke.
However Robert, father to other Luke was born Earsdon so he could also be a son I suppose.
