Willan/Shalmerdine
« on: Wednesday 23 July 08 13:18 BST (UK) »
I am having trouble I tracking down the actual church/chapel for a marriage I found on the IGI: John Willan and Anne Shalmerdine on 24 Sept 1758 in 'Kendal'. It's not clear to me if this is a marriage at Holy Trinity Church in Kendal or elsewhere. If anyone can help me to locate it, or has further information on either John Willan or Anne Shalmerdine, I'd be very grateful. Thanks

Tish

Hi Tish,

John Willan of Kendal, widower & Anne Shalmerdine of Kendal, spinster were married by banns at Holy Trinity (Parish Church), Kendal on 24 September 1758 (he signed, she marked), and was witnessed by John Atkinson & Mark Burn.

Regards

Chris

Chris,

That's brilliant - many, many thanks. It's interesting to see that John was a widower and that Anne is described as being 'of Kendal' as she's the only Shalmerdine/Shelmerdine I can find in Westmorland - most seem to be in the Manchester/Cheshire area.

Thanks again, and for checking this for me so speedily,

Tish
