Birth - William or James SELWOOD
« on: Thursday 24 July 08 15:33 BST (UK) »
Hello

I'm trying to find a birth certificate or possible baptism entry for my grandfather. The details I have are William James Selwood born circa 1887. His pension records give a D.O.B. as 29 April 1887. His marriage cert indicates he was born c.1889 and his death cert, c.1887.

From the 1891 & 1901 census records I believe I have the same person, but listed as James Selwood. In 1891 he was 4 years old, living in Gloucester and in 1901, 15 years old, living in Tewkesbury.

Both census's show he was born in Thame, Oxfordshire.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

I can't find any Selwood baptisms in the Thame parish records for the right timeframe.

What about the possibility that he might have been registered under his mother's name if his parents weren't married?
There's this registration:
William James HATWELL, SepQ 1887, Thame RD, 3a, 754
but I can't find such a person either appearing in the 1891 or 1901 censuses, nor dying young.

Does the village Hawkesbury come up in your Family Tree research, As I have a Selwood line that comes from this area.
