Newport where?

As for Caroline, there are two marriages in Hull RD, Mar Qtr 1870 Caroline Elizabeth Sparkes, and Dec Qtr 1871 Caroline Pickering.  At a glance the second one appears to be the one you are looking for as Caroline Pickering was born abt 1849 in Hull, which agrees with the info you give.

I only have the 1891 census for John Woodall which ties in with the 1881 that you told me about. He was born in the civil parish of Southcoates.

I found a Caroline Pickering in the 1851 census, also born in Hull in the civil parish of sculcoates, so that ties in with the info that michael gave me.

It also ties in with the eldest child of John and Caroline being born 1873 if they married 1871.

Thankyou to both Wozzle and Michael.

Hi Michael,

I found Caroline Pickering in the 1851 census aged 2 yrs. I was unable to find her in the 1861 census but I did find a Caroline Pickering in the 1871 census age 22 yrs. where she was Head Confectioner and unmarried. I don't know if she's the same one!

Hi Betty,
I've looked in the 1861 census, but can't find her either.  Neither have I discovered what happened to her father David.

The confectioner in the 1871 census was the one that I thought was her.  She is in the right place at the right time before her marriage.  I would feel sure that it was her .

Hi Michael,

I've come across a "private members tree" with a David Pickering b 1816 and asked for some information, so, fingers crossed. I know it's a long shot but worth a try. I did come across a few more David Pickerings and I'll try and follow them up.  In the 1861 census the mother of David is shown as Mary Pickering.
