Census 1901 Drains and Taggarts Portrush
« on: Friday 25 July 08 11:07 BST (UK) »
I've just started on the quest to discover more about my family and yesterday came across this site. I was amazed and delighted to come across this earlier entry on the forum
 http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,240602.15.html

Percy Taggart was my Grandfather and Jackson was my GGFather!
According to Jackson and Annies marriage cert Jackson was from Revallagh and Annie from Stranmore Cottage. Their son Percy married Margaret Drain (Adrain?) my Grandmother. Both families I understand were at that time living in Glenmanus Village at Portrush.

Any clues on the Drains or Taggarts from Glenmaus Village in Portrush would be most welcome. Particularly anything from the 1901 census would be be really useful as I’m having real problems getting any further back on the Drains.

Many thanks
Taggart - Ballyrashane, Bushmills,Glenmanus etc County Antrim
Laird - Ballylinney, Ballygallagh, Ballyclare County Antrim
Gillespie - Ballylinney, Ballygallagh, Ballyclare County Antrim
Drain - Glenmanus, Loguestown Co Antrim

Starting with 1901 census-
2 Drain households at Causeway Street, Portrush:
Hugh Drain (2 people in household) and Alex Drain (4 people in household).
This website might help: www.irishpalmers.org.uk/surnamesearch.asp
(If you need the actual census entries get in touch by pm)

1911 Co. Antrim and Co. Londonderry census are supposed to be put online in October.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

maryderry and aghadowney,

Thanks for responding I've just discovered that I cant pm until after I've posted 5 times. Would be interested in what you both consider to be the most useful sites for research.
