Could she have been a widow when she married William Winter? There are ZERO Pothecary entries in Cambs on FreeBMD, although I haven't checked for variations

what evidence is there that the William Winter/Eliza Pothecary marriage in 1878 St pancras is this couple? Do you have a birth cert of one of the children to show mother's maiden name? This would also indicate if she had been married beofre, even if this is the right marriage an dgive her maiden name.

Looking for Eliza's of the right age, bn Mepal, in 1871 leads me to:

RG10 673 80 12
Eliza Clark age 18 bn Mepal, servant in h/h in Lambeth

then there is marriage:
Oct/Nov/Dec 1878
Islington reg distr ref 1b 427
Eliza Clark
also on page William Winters

makes me wonder in the Pothecary bit is just leading us up a garden path......

methinks a cert or two might be needed

Just reached the same conclusion myself Liz, having found the Islington marriage, and given that they were living in Islington in 1881 and there's a baptism on the IGI of Eliza Clark in Mepal in 1852
