Delia Murphy (1902-1971), a well known Irish singer, was born in Ardroe, Claremorris, after her parents had moved back to Mayo from the US where her father, Jack, had made his fortune during the Klondyke Gold Rush. A couple of years after Delia's birth Jack Murphy purchased the Mount Jennings Estate near Annefield Cross, Hollymount. www.westernpeople.ie/news/story/?trs=mhmhojsnkf
