WAGSTAFFS of Stoke on Trent
« on: Thursday 31 July 08 17:55 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information that can confirm the relationship between the following Wagstaffs all born Staffs and living in Stoke on trent

William c1800  died 1843 aged 44. Marriage not found but childs birth certificate has mother as Frances Hudson. The only baptism I can find is in Norton 1804 to John and Sarah with a brother John baptised the same day.

Jesse c1795 died 1849 in Newcastle upon tyne. Married Jane Marsh 1813. No baptism found.

Cornelius c 1800. married several times. Father noted as John.  No baptism found.

The reason I beleive they may be related is that they all have decendants by the name of James Bishop Wagstaff. I have traced them all through the census and come to a full stop.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Julie

I am in the same quandary, my 4th Great Grandfather was Cornelius Wagstaff Born somewhere between 1799 and 1803 in Newcastle under Lyme or Burslem, depending which census you read. I cannot find a baptism or birth year for him, having almost given up. His father John stated on several of his marriage notices but have no further info. James Bishop Wagstaff also appears in my tree so I will look again at your information and start some more research. Any information I find I will pass on to you.

I have William Wagstaff (1822 - 1894) son of Cornelius, one of his sons was James Bishop Wagstaff Born 1862 (mother Elizabeth Annie Broad) if that helps.

Hi
There is a John Wagstaff and Mary Bishop marriage 30.9.1779 at Portsea  St Mary
bach and spins of this parish
Robert Wade and Richard Grudge

Only one child baptised there Martha 13.8.1780.
And seemingly no burials

Worth a thought?
