Being a Butler in 1850, York
« on: Tuesday 25 January 05 15:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am keep to find out if there was such a thing as a 'school' for budding butlers in York as both my gt gt grandad and gt gt uncle were butlers in York in the mid 1800's
John Duckett (son)worked for 30 years for a Capt. R Darnell. Mount Villas, York until the Capt.'s death. He was a Deputy Lieutenant for the North Riding.
I have still to find out where Thomas Duckett (father)worked as a butler, but his wife and duaghter were living at 3 Dale St, York in 1861.
Would there be any records of either mans 'service'??
