Hi Ovsgirl2,

The best bet would be to go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and search through the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census returns. They are all indexed by name. If you have more of an idea of the area in Scotland it would help :)

Do you know when James and Mary married? You can probably find their marriage certificate - you might need to look at a few to get the right ones but they are not that expensive at 6 pounds for 30 page credits - I have found them an absolute godsend  ;) That will give you where they married and their parents names.

James Miller, Coal Miner. 22yrs, living at New Masonie Buildings, Bellshill, Lanark.
his father was William Miller coal miner. and his mother was Christina Miller Maiden surname Hodge, [deceased]
MARRIED
Mary Wylie Nelson, Farm Servant,,19 yrs, living at Paterson's Land, Low ..........., Bellshill,
her father was Thomas Nelson, coal Miner,
her Mother was Margaret Nelson, maiden surname Wyllie.

William could not write, this was evident by the fact that he could not sign his name on the marriage cert.

Death Cert information on William Miller

William Miller died 21 February 1914

he was married twice:-

1. Christina Hodge - 20 march 1874 in Glasgow.. her address at the time of her marriage was 36 Adelphi Street Glasgow. and at the time of her marriage was a power loom weaver.

2. Elizabeth Frame - 16 July 1896 in Hamilton Lanarkshire, daughter of John Frame and Elizabeth Richmond. She was 33 at the time of her marriage

Occupation listed as retired coal miner

Gives his parents names

Father :- Alexander Miller also a coal miner
Mother :- Agnes Miller nee Taylor

(cause of death is albuminuria, broncitus, cardiac failure, )

Christina Miller nee Hodge died july 23 1894 aged 41
