Jackson's of Lisavague, County Amargh
« on: Saturday 02 August 08 20:55 BST (UK) »
I am seeking information on the family of my grandmother, Sarah (Jackson) Morrison, born 15 May 1878, in Portadown or Lisavague.

Her parents were Thomas Jackson and Sarah Patterson.  I have no information about either of them.

Sarah’s siblings were  Elizabeth (b. 1870?), Ann Jane (b.1872), Robert (b. 1874), Thomas (b. 1880), Samuel (b. 1883).   Robert and Samuel came to the United States and Thomas may have also.

Sarah Jackson married James Morrison of Derryhale, County Amargh on 25 Sept 1903 at St. Saviour's Church and they arrived in New York on 12 Oct 1903.

I would like to learn about Sarah’s parents and who her sisters might have married.

Dear TF,

Thank you so much for finding the date of marriage!  The other three children were born after 1874 (1878, 1880, 1883) so I wonder if that suggests that the family moved between '74 & '78.
I believe civil registration of births began in 1864 but I'm not sure about civil registrations of marriages.  I'll check PRONI -- it would be wonderful to get a copy of Thomas & Sarah's marriage cert. and thus the names of their parents!

        Thank you again.

Richard

Civil registration of Catholic marriages began 1864- from 1845 for other marriages.

The children I listed earlier are born in Ireland- see www.familysearch.org for details.

hi richard,
i dont know about proni but the district registrar's office's hold marriage registers from 1 april 1845(for none r.c. marriages) and 1 jan. 1864 for all marriages.in your case it would be armagh district registrar. hope it helps!
