Hi Greg,
Thanks for posting the image.
I would think it's got to be St Marys - because of the fact it says church cemetery.
I just saw the wonderful offer on the other thread re the parish registers, so like you I will wait with baited breath for the reply - fingers crossed!
Paulene :)

Dear Arnie
Having read this thread I am also interested about Mary Bonser who was born at Codnor Park in 1848.  Codnor Park is next to Ironville - both villages actually in Derbyshire but now having a Notts postcode. I also notice that Thomas in 1841 was a boatman -  the Cromford Canal then ran from Langley Mill (close to Ilkeston) through Codnor Park/Ironville and on to Cromford Derbyshire.  As a boatman he may have been working on the Cromford Canal in 1848 when Mary was born at Codnor Park. There was a massive iron works or forge at Codnor Park and the canal was the main way of transportation.  Langley Mill was a junction for canals. You can find out more about Codnor Park and Ironville on our village website
http://www.jacksdale.org.uk

As for searching forward I have had a lot of success resorting to the BMD Births Marriages Deaths after 1901.  Especially after September 1911 the mother's maiden name is given on a birth record.  Also the spouses surname on a marriage.  NB freebmd is not yet complet - still being added to!
http://www.freebmd.org.uk

If you are a member of the ancestry web site or similar they have the full birth marriage and death indexes - and you have to search page on page.

Sometimes it is possible to work forward in this way from the 1901 or even to work backward from the present day from existing ancestors by using BMD.

Thank you  Sylvia

From looking at the the marriages and christenings you have given me I am thinking that the one of Millicent Plumb christenings April 13, 1823 is my relative I have gone on the IGI records and found I think the rest of her family.
The Millicent Plumb born 1792 then married in 1813 was there anything else with that a husband name??

Also on the 1861 census  after the image, You have the index of places in Derbyshire, What is that I have seen it before and do not know what it is.

Thanks again for the census of 1861 I just found it  a couple of weeks ago. An interesting thing is Thomas on his death certificate dies on Gallows inn Street.

Cheshiremog

Hi you say you have an interest in Mary Bonser because she was born at Codnor Park or is she in your family tree somewhere. Thankyou for the site about Codnor park and the canals I did not know much about them till now.

Thank you again

Greg

Hi
To all that have been following this, I want to post some information I have found on the Bonser family. I received this info from the  Community, Learning & Information Librarian, South Area

The Canel boatman are brother in Laws to Hannah who is Thomas and Millicent's daughter. This was very interesting stuff as I have not reserarched canel boatman untill now. Thomas H is Thomas and Millicent's son. Hannah married Herbert Bradley, they were his brothers.

Bonser, Thomas H is down as Gallows Inn/Nottingham Road/Shipstone Street in Ilkeston

Master of various Ilkeston registered canal boats late 19th century.

In the register he is registered under boat numbers 19 “Sam and Clara” for coal and sand, 36 “Willie”, 51 “Annie”, 58 “Cyril Vincent” was broken up, 82 “Jennie” and 87 “Primrose”.

Boat number 64 was registered for Bonser, Jnr.

Bradley, Robert was tenant of building plot s.side, church street Sept 1920 from rutland estate sale catalogue 1920 p69 and 181 It was lot 860.

Bradley, William master of various Ilkeston registered canal boats. In the late 19th century. Ref Ilkeston canal boat register boat numbers 25 and 31.

In the 1914 rate book This is what it said
225 Nottingham Road is a house shop and bakehouse. Simpson, Harry is the occupier and owners are Shipstone and Sons.

The Harry Simpson mentioned is the Son in Law of Thomas and Millicet. He married Mary. Clara Bradley lived there in the 1901 Census. She is Herbert and Hannah's Daughter. Grandaughter to Thomas and Millicent.

Thank you again to all who have helped me

Greg
