Quaker records
« on: Tuesday 05 August 08 19:17 BST (UK) »
I have in my possession an old book printed with the transcript of Christenings/Marriages and Burials for Bradford (West Yorkshire).-printed 1926
My question is on the original marriage record, would the grooms father be recorded.
Period covers 1650-1926.
(In our family there are a large number of same christian named individuals, and it would be nice to keep track of relatives).
Any feedback appreciated.

Hi Brian,

Can't help with your question ... but I wonder if your book lists Tatham marriages?  I have Tatham ancestors who were apparently Quakers ... one, Marmaduke Tatham, was even supposed to have his tongue torn out (but someone relented and the sentence wasn't carried out).  I have very little idea of Yorkshire geography, so don't know whether your book covers the areas of interest, which include Bentham, Aughton, Wray, Botton (?) and of course, Tatham (I do, however, realise that some of these may be, or may have been, classified as Lancs).

Thanks  :)

Cheers
Deb

Sadly no.
But if you go onto family search website, look under  international Genealogical Index.
Then put in name found 20 Marmaduke Tatham named people.-Some listed Lancashire.

Brian,

I've recently downloaded some copies of original pages of Quaker baptisms and marriages in Westmoreland from this site:

www.bmdregisters.co.uk

and they mention the parents of both bride and groom. In some cases it also includes where they're from and what their occupation is. I may have just got lucky but I understand that - in general - Quaker records did tend to give this additional info even pre 1837.

HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

Thanks for the link Jill, just what the doctor ordered.
Although I won't be buying any credits, this confirms the information to hand.

Hi Deb

I too have Marmaduke Tatham in my direct line ancestry.  Perhaps we could compare information?

Best wishes
