Pretty sure first one is Douglas.
Not sure about 2nd.

That's kinda what I thought too Gadget but having heard of neither, decided not to comment.

mck - perhaps you could post a bit more of the image so we can compare other letters on document?  Does the name appear on any other documents you have?

There are many words and names that I've not heard of - it's really what we think that they look like .  Other evidence is worth looking for - for example a marriage, etc.

wasn't having a dig Gadget, just re-affirming your guesses.

First name of first lady is Helen.
MS of second lady looks to me like "Prat" - the "a" is similar to the "a" in "Douglas".
