Although not aforementioned on this thread;  Pricilla Norman was baptised on 25 Dec 1801 at age 4yrs & three-quarters, (making her born in mid 1796). On that same day was baptised her sister Martha at age 2yrs & three-quarters (born mid 1798) ......

..... which is odd, because there is already a baptism entry for Martha Norman  on 2 May 1798 - born 19th March ... (so did she get baptised twice ? ?)

Thomas Norman was a widower when he married Hannah Pain; who was is first wife ?

& did you know there's a baptism for William, illegitimate son of Hannah Paine on May 11th 1788

This is one of the reason this part of the family history intreagues me so.....

Priscilla was baptised at 4 1/2 on the same day as martha, and yes it does seem that Martha may have been baptised twice (according to the records).

There were 5 sisters who were born/baptised as follows:
Susan, baptised 19 Sept 1793
Cressy, baptised 19 March 1796
Priscilla, baptised 25 Dec 1801, (b 1796) - as you have said
Martha, baptised 2 May 1798 (b 19 March 1798) - as you have said
Hannah, baptised 6 May 1802

I do not have info that Thomas was a widdower, have you any more info?

Yes I know about Hannah's son William, who was baptised on 11th May 1788

Any more info is welcome and appreciated

According to the NBI, Thomas Norman was buried Odell All Saints on 12/02/1822 age 74, making him born 1748.

There is no baptism of him at Odell around that time, nor can I find a suitable baptism on the IGI for him in any other Bedfordshire parish.  In fact there are no other Normans in Odell at that time.  Nor can I find a previous marriage for him anywhere in Beds.

Other Norman burials in Odell on the NBI

Hannah on 13/01/1839 age 74 (= born 1765)
-  could she be the Ann Payn, daughter of Benj & Mary baptised 24 Mar 1765 at Odell ?

Ann on 04/11/1826 age 33 (= born 1793)
- could she be Thomas & Hannah's daughter Susan ?

Priscilla on 26/03/1850 at age 53 (= born 1797)

The only Pris/cilla Norman I can find on 1841 is one aged 50 wife of John, living in Blunham.

I will check the Odell, All Saints MI's at the BFHS library at the next meeting (1st week of September) to see if there is any additional info.

Regards John

Priscilla was buried 26 MArch 1850 in Odell

I am not sure about the other burials/dates you gave, these do not seem to match

Priscilla & family do appear in the census'

Do you have a copy of the page where you have her transcribed as Roman which you could email me?

Did this Priscilla ever marry ?,

regardless she did managed to baptise her many children with just her name as recorded on the extracted entries from the PR on the IGI.

also see other topic about her

Thanks for the input again.

As far as we know Priscilla never married and had all childeren to (possibly) different fathers, none of whom are named on birth cirtificates, yet she did manage to get them all baptised.

With Odell being a small village and a community, at that time, that made the poor wear the letters OP on their clothes, this does seem strange.

The other topic you linked to was one started by my sister, and at the bottom is my email.

I will keep looking !
