United College, Winnipeg/Personnel Records
« on: Wednesday 06 August 08 12:08 BST (UK) »
I'm researching a relation who was an employee of United College, Winnipeg circa 1951. As United College received a charter and became the University of Winnipeg in 1967, is it possible that United College personnel records from that time are still retained in the University of Winnipeg archives? If not, where would they be held?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Rodeo

Below you will see the email address for Retirees Association, University of Manitoba

UMRA[at]shaw.ca

It appears to be an active organization which may be able to help with the information
you seek.

Beth

Hi Beth

Thanks for your reply. I'll send an email to the Retirees Association, as you suggest, in the hope that they retain the personnel record I'm seeking in their archives.

Cheers,

The University of Manitoba's Retirees Association won't have any information on University of Winnipeg employees. The University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg are separate institutions.

United States: Patterson, Smith, Brown, Vance, Bower(s), Newberry, Best, Love, Gorsuch

Hi Jacquie

Thanks for your post. Historically, United College was originally affiliated with the University of Manitoba before becoming the University of Winnipeg.

According to an entry in Wikipedia: United College was formed in 1938 from the union of Manitoba College, founded in 1871, Yellow College in 1875 and Wesley College, founded in 1888. Originally affiliated with the University of Manitoba, United College received its charter in 1967 and became the University of Winnipeg.

Thus, I thought it might be worthwhile to contact the University of Manitoba Retirees Association, as Beth suggested. However, I've had no reply. Meanwhile, I've also contacted the University of Winnipeg archivist.

Cheers,

Rodeo
